The active substances in licorice (triterpenes and flavonoids) inhibit the inflammation of the lining of the gut and respiratory tract, acting antispasmodic on the gastrointestinal tract, biliary tract, and bronchial tubes. The anticonvulsant effect of licorice increases the flow of bile to the duodenum and significantly improves the cleavage and digestion of fats.
