The night candle oil is rich in cis-linoleic acid, which transforms the body into gamma-linolenic acid and for the formation of the prostaglandins. Cis-linoleic acid can not form the body itself, it must be absorbed with the food. The resulting prostaglandins ensure an active metabolism that keeps the body healthy. Prostaglandins expand the blood vessels, lower blood pressure, protect against arterial limescale, prevent clumping of blood platelets, slow down the formation of harmful LDL cholesterol, activate white blood platelets and strengthen immune defense, as well as prevent liver damage.
They also alleviate the painful inflammation of the joints that point to arthritis as well as the symptoms of premenstrual syndrome in women (irritability, tension in the breasts, metabolic disorders). The lack of prostaglandins first manifests itself on the skin, which dries out, becomes sensitive and itchy. In humans suffering from neurodermatitis, the enzyme, which converts the cis-linoleic acid to gamma-linolenic acid, and as a result of the disease of the skin, is absent.
These symptoms typical of atopic dermatitis are well treated by the use of evening primrose oil because this oil also contains up to 14% of the gamma-linoleic acid that does not need any conversion. Also in people who are not neurodermics, the night candle oil has a positive effect on the texture of the skin, especially the dry ones it moisturizes. It also helps with reddened skin, itching and scaling, leaving each skin smoother and smoother.
