Chaga powder, 50g medicinal
The Leaning Schillerporling (Latin: Inonotus obliquus) is a parasitic wood-dweller and forms a black Chaga tuber on birch and alder trees. It occurs in Russia, Scandinavia, Central and Eastern Europe, Northern Europe, Japan, Korea and Central Asia (Kazakhstan). The tubers are drunk as a hot water extract because of its effects in traditional medicine in these countries. In these regions, the fungus is traditionally used for tumors, for prevention and support, especially for lung cancer, stomach and intestinal cancer, and skin cancer. According to Wikipedia, laboratory and animal tests have confirmed the anti-cancer effect, although clinical studies are still pending. Wikipedia further reports that extracts from Chaga tubers stimulate the immune system, have an anti-inflammatory effect (particularly good for the stomach and intestines) and protect the liver and pancreas. The mushroom is said to have a positive effect on cholesterol levels and blood pressure. Chaga extracts are also used to alleviate the side effects of chemotherapy and as a general strengthening agent for skin diseases and psoriasis (anti-inflammatory effect).
