Astaxanthin 6mg, 60 Capsules
Astaxanthin is a reddish-purple pigment belonging to the carotenoid family. It is primarily produced by green algae and is responsible for the red coloration of crustaceans and fish that consume these algae. Astaxanthin is one of the world's most powerful antioxidants, having positive effects on the skin, eyes, cardiovascular system, and the immune system. Antioxidants prevent oxidation
and are free radical scavengers. They inactivate reactive oxygen species (ROS) in the body, the excessive presence of which leads to oxidative stress, which is associated with aging.
Antioxidants are also produced in the body. These include the amino acid glutathione, uric acid, and melatonin. The plant-based antioxidants we ingest with food include vitamins C and E, secondary plant compounds such as carotenoids, and various polyphenols (flavonoids, anthocyanins, phytoestrogens, nordihydroguaiaretic acid, and others), which are found in numerous vegetables, fruits, herbs, and seeds. With a varied diet, the amount of astaxanthin taken in a supplement does not need to be very high.
