The capsule provides the body with three building blocks for the joints: glucosamine from shellfish, chondroitin and collagen. Glucosamine is a component of connective tissue, cartilage and synovial fluid. Chondroitin is largely converted to glucosamine and glucuronic acid in the digestive tract. Studies have shown that taking glucosamine has a cartilage-protecting effect. Glucosamine also lowers levels of inflammation in the blood. The added vitamin C participates in the formation of collagen, which is an essential building block of cartilage. Imbir, turmeric, and rose hip extracts have anti-inflammatory properties and relieve pain that occurs in inflamed joints. The manganese and zinc are components of the bones, which strengthens them.
